Two months ago i started to research about European basketball championships. My attention was focused on the socialist countries. Last time we read about the success of the women's national basketball team of Bulgaria. Like Robert Prechter says in his book „The Wave Principle of Human Social Behavior and the New Science of Socionomics"(probably most of you have read this book), -basketball is a bull market sport. Of course, he talks about basketball in the USA, but one could assume that this is valid for Europe.

As I mentioned in my article about the Bulgarian women's basketball team, an excellent performance would mean that the team must be amongst the top three teams. Over the years for Czechoslovakia this is as follows:
  • 1935 in Geneva, Czechoslovakia ranked 3rd place. This could be wave 1.
  • In the next two championships(1937, 1939), the country is overboard and did not bring any medal home. In my opinion, this is the first correction and also wave 2.
  • The second correction in the performance was between 1971 and 1975 when the country was out of the top three. This is wave 4.
  • The next 5 competitions bring one silver medal and two bronze(1977 and 1985). Here we must say that the last tournament where Czechoslovakia won a medal was in Germany in 1985. And this is the last wave of 5.

Plotted on the graph, the five-wave model would appear as follows:

After the completion of 5 waves in one direction, we expect a correction of 3 waves in the opposite. The rules of the wave theory allow a different interpretation to be the mode of the waves. So you could have various labels, but in the end, five waves will be completed. This is one possible count.

During the cold war, the performance of the socialist countries in the European championships was very successful. The sport was an excellent opportunity for the East to oppose the West. This is the case of Bulgaria, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, which are now waiting for their better times in men's national basketball.
